Background

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is undertaking upgrades to Picton Road; a significant connection point between the Illawarra and the Greater Macarthur Growth area.

Biosis was commissioned to undertake a cultural heritage values assessment for the project, which requires the results of the study to be available to Traditional Owners and the wider public. Biosis proposed and developed an ArcGIS story map; an interactive web page combining text, images, audio and interactive maps.

Multiple workshops and oral history interviews were undertaken to understand the cultural values of the project.

Outcome

Biosis, in consultation with TfNSW and Traditional Owners, developed the “Yanmanjang – Walking together” story map in 2023 combining archaeological results and cultural knowledge into an engaging resource for the community.

It was made available to the public in early 2024. Go here to view it on your phone
