Technical Assistant, Melbourne.

Biosis is looking to appoint an energetic Technical Assistant to join our team in Melbourne. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.   

This is a full time 12 month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate.

Working closely with our experienced and multi-disciplined team of archaeologists, botanists, ecologists, zoologists, GIS specialists and environmental planners, you will provide support to the consulting team across our metro and regional offices, ensuring the successful delivery of a wide range of projects.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Melbourne office is located in Port Melbourne, close to the CBD and easily accessible by public transport.  We are a very short walk from the North Port tram stop. This central location provides access to all the services of Melbourne without the hassle of traffic and parking.

Reporting to the Services Manager, the Technical Assistant duties include assisting staff with vehicle, travel and equipment bookings, purchasing, organising field work, preparation of ecology and cultural heritage field surveys, maintaining training records and assisting all offices with general administration tasks.

  • An understanding, experience or qualifications in the areas of ecology or cultural heritage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed time management skills.
  • The ability to think on your feet and solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated planning and organisational
  • Competency with computers as well as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, or similar software packages.
  • A current driver’s licence.
  • Australian citizenship/residency, or a valid work permit.

Desirable selection criteria

  • Experience in logistics, administration or project management.
