Research Assistant – Heritage (Albury/Wangaratta).

Biosis is looking to appoint an ambitious and highly motivated Research Assistant – Heritage to join the Victorian Heritage team, based in Albury or Wangaratta. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career heritage specialist or archaeologist to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.   

This is a full time 12 month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate. Flexible working arrangements, including part time arrangements, will also be considered for the right candidate. In addition, Biosis is able to provide a relocation allowance for the right candidate.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the heritage team in Victoria, a key contributor to existing and future projects, and a driver for the development of our heritage capabilities in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Wangaratta office is a short walk from the Wangaratta Railway Station. Our Albury office is located within walking distance of the CBD and Albury Railway Station. Both locations provide an accessible regional/rural town lifestyle with lively town centres, and a supportive environment within a consultancy that is committed to servicing our clients in the northern Victoria region.

This is an early-career consultant position. The role’s responsibilities include assisting the heritage consultant team in collecting and collating background information for projects, undertaking field surveys, proposal writing, data gathering and analysis, and report writing. Essential selection criteria

  • A desire to learn, an attitude of persistence, and proactive flexibility.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in archaeology or heritage management, such as BA (Hons), BSc (Hons) or equivalent.
  • The ability to gain certification as a Heritage Advisor with Aboriginal Victoria, if not already held.
  • Motivated to gain experience in research, critical thinking, problem solving, and fieldwork.
  • Experienced in the use of Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Developing interpersonal and team work skills, including excellent communication.
  • A keen desire to be part of a team of specialist consultants.
  • A current driver’s license.
  • Australian citizenship/residency, or a valid work permit.
