Research Assistant – Ecology / Botanist (Sydney).

Biosis is looking to appoint an ambitious Research Assistant – Ecology / Botanist, to join our team in Sydney. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

This is a full time 12-month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the ecology team in NSW, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout NSW, and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Sydney office is located close to the CBD and is easily accessible by public transport. We are a short walk from Redfern or Green Square train stations. This provides access to all the services of Sydney without the hassle of traffic and parking.

Biosis is seeking a Research Assistant – Ecology / Botanist who is highly motivated, proactive towards their development and ready to advance their career within our consultancy. The position will involve working closely with our consulting team to provide essential logistical, research and administrative support. Additional duties will include assisting with field surveys and the preparation of technical consulting reports and proposals.

To be considered for this role, you will meet the following selection criteria:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in botany or ecology.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • High attention to detail and competence with database management and administrative duties.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving and completing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Well organised with a proven ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and/or similar software packages.
  • An understanding of botany and ecology, with basic knowledge of relevant Commonwealth and State legislation.
  • Experience with ecological field surveys and logistics.
  • Flora identification skills. Experience in the Sydney region will be viewed favourably.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • A keen desire to be part of a team of specialist consultants.
  • A current manual driver’s license.
  • Australian citizenship/residency, or a valid work permit.
