Research Assistant – Ecology, Albury.

Biosis is looking to appoint an ambitious Research Assistant – Ecology to join our team in Albury. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

This is a full time 12 month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the ecology team in Victoria, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout Victoria, and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Albury office is located within walking distance to the CBD and Albury Railway Station.

Our Research Assistant – Ecology role is suited to a highly motivated environmental professional with an interest in developing knowledge of applied botany or zoology. The Research Assistant – Ecology works closely within a team of specialist senior consultants in our Victorian ecology team to provide essential logistical, research and administrative support. Duties include undertaking field survey preparation and activities and preparing proposals and technical advisory reports.

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, ecology, botany or zoology.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving and completing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written communication skills, such as formal report and proposal writing.
  • Strong organisational skills including being able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and competence with database management and administrative processes.
  • South-Eastern Australian flora and/or fauna identification skills.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant Commonwealth and state legislation.
  • Experience with ecological field surveys and logistics.
  • Competency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, or similar software packages.
  • A current manual driver’s licence.
  • Australian citizenship or residency, or a valid work permit.
