Project Botanist, Sydney/Wollongong/Newcastle (12 month contract).

Biosis is looking to appoint an experienced Botanist to join our team in Sydney, Wollongong or Newcastle for a full-time 12 month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy that provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.   

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

THE ROLE

Biosis is seeking an ecologist with experience in botany, and the capability of providing environmental advice and guidance to our clients. The successful candidate will play an integral role in carrying out biodiversity projects in the region. Your responsibilities will include designing, coordinating and undertaking field surveys and projects, preparation of project proposals and technical reports, and undertaking a degree of project management and client liaison responsibilities.

The role would be negotiable between the Sydney, Wollongong or Newcastle office. Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the ecology team in NSW, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout NSW, and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this role, please demonstrate these required skills and attributes within your cover letter:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in ecology and or botany.
  • One to three years’ botanical experience, preferably in consultancy or the public sector.
  • Broad plant identification skills, preferably with experience in NSW.
  • Strong report writing and proposal writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth and state legislation with regard to ecology.
  • Experience with field survey design and implementation.
  • Basic experience in sales, client relationship management, and business development including proposal preparation, client liaison, and consultation.
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or similar software packages.
  • A current manual driver’s
  • Experience with project management, including budgets (preferable).
  • Australian citizenship/residency, or a valid work permit (required).
