Graduate GIS Analyst, Sydney.

Biosis is looking to appoint a skilled Graduate GIS Analyst to join our team in Sydney. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

This is a full time 12 month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the GIS team in NSW, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout NSW, and a driver for the development of our GIS services in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Sydney office is located close to the CBD and is easily accessible by public transport. We are a short walk from Redfern or Green Square train stations. This provides access to all the services of Sydney without the hassle of traffic and parking.

Biosis is seeking a Graduate GIS Analyst with experience in GIS/drafting packages (preferably ArcGIS), a high level of attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and interpersonal skills which enable them to participate fully in our team environment.  The Graduate GIS Analyst’s duties involve GIS map generation, data exporting and importing, and creating simple queries.

Essential selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geomatics, Surveying or an equivalent discipline.
  • Experience using GIS packages (preferably ArcGIS).
  • An interest in the environmental consulting industry.
  • Basic experience in sales, client relationship management and business development areas, such as proposal preparation and client liaison.
  • Competency with the Microsoft Office suite or similar packages.
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Experience with project management methodologies, such as managing budgets.
  • Australian citizenship or residency, or a valid work permit.
  • Previous working experience is desirable, but not essential (particularly within a consulting environment).
