GIS Coordinator (Melbourne).

Biosis is looking to appoint a skilled and ambitious GIS Coordinator to join our team in Melbourne. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the GIS team at Biosis, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout our whole company, and a driver for the development of our GIS capabilities in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Melbourne office is located in Port Melbourne, close to the CBD and easily accessible by public transport.  We are a very short walk from the North Port tram stop. This central location provides access to all the services of Melbourne without the hassle of traffic and parking.

Biosis is seeking a GIS Coordinator with experience in prioritising and assigning high volumes of diverse GIS/mapping tasks. You will have a strong background in project management and GIS/drafting packages (experience in ArcGIS and ARCPro is highly desirable), high attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines. You are a highly motivated individual willing to participate fully in a team environment.

The GIS Coordinator reports to the Team Leader – GIS and Compliance and works closely with the Principal GIS Consultant. You will be responsible for supervising, developing and growing the team, management of existing client relationships, developing new relationships, resource scheduling, and technical and project oversight.

Essential selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in geomatics, surveying or an appropriate discipline.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience using GIS packages.
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior staff in technical and project management skills.
  • Experience managing projects, taking accountability for client service and satisfaction, and quality control.
  • Experience in sales, client relationship management and business development, including proposal preparation and client liaison.
  • Demonstrated experience developing strong collaborative relationships with senior staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in prioritising and allocating tasks.
  • Australian citizenship/residency, or a valid work permit.
  • Previous experience working in consulting is desirable, as well as a keen interest in the environment.
