Enviromental Planner, Melbourne – 12 month contract.

Biosis are looking to appoint a graduate to early career level planner with a passion for the environment to join our Environmental Planning Team in Melbourne to fulfil our planning needs.  This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.  

Working with a multi-disciplined team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the Environmental Planning Team and be a key contributor to various existing and future environmental approval projects throughout Victoria.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the GIS & planning team in Victoria, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout Victoria, and a driver for the development of our environmental planning capabilities in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our Melbourne office is located in Port Melbourne, close to the CBD and easily accessible by public transport.  We are a very short walk from the North Port tram stop. This central location provides access to all the services of Melbourne without the hassle of traffic and parking.

Environmental Planner, Melbourne

Biosis is seeking a planner with a desire for environmental planning, capable of providing sound planning advice and guidance to our clients. Your responsibilities will include participating in, conducting and managing projects, and the production of technical reports.  Additional duties will include; proposal writing, business development and establishing a profile in the professional community as an Environmental Planner.

To be considered for this role, you will have a number of the following skill sets:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in planning.
  • Experience in statutory planning (due diligence, permit applications, planning scheme amendments etc.), preferably in consultancy or the public sector.
  • Understanding of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Victoria Planning Provisions and the planning approvals process is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth and State legislation with regard to environmental approvals is desirable.
  • Strong report writing and proposal writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Effects Statements (EES) and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC) referrals/approval management would be desirable.
  • Experience in client liaison and consultation.
  • Basic experience in marketing and business development including proposal preparation and client liaison.
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS word, excel, outlook, and/or similar software packages.
  • Experience with project management, including budgets.
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills.
