Biosis is looking to appoint an ambitious Botanist to join our team in Sydney or Western Sydney. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

This is a full time 12 month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the Ecology team in NSW, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout NSW, and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

We have two locations within Greater Sydney, which you can choose to work from. Our Sydney office is located in Alexandria, close to the CBD and is easily accessible by public transport. We are a short walk from Redfern or Green Square train stations. This office has access to all the services of Sydney without the hassle of traffic and parking. Alternatively, our open plan Western Sydney office is located in Emu Plains, minutes from a train station and bus stop.

Selection Criteria

Biosis is seeking a Botanist with experience in field botany, and the capability of providing environmental advice and guidance to our clients.  Your responsibilities will include designing, coordinating and undertaking field surveys and projects, preparation of project proposals and technical reports, and undertaking some project management and client liaison responsibilities. Additionally you will establish an industry presence in the professional community as a Botanist.

To be considered for this role, please demonstrate these required skills and attributes within your cover letter:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in ecology.
  • A minimum of one year of botany experience (preferably in consultancy or the public sector).
  • Broad local region flora identification skills.
  • Experience with field survey design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth and state legislation with regard to ecology.
  • Strong proposal and report writing skills.
  • Basic experience in sales, client relationship management and business development including client liaison and consultation.
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook or similar software packages.
  • A manual driver’s licence.
  • Australian citizenship/residency or the right to work permanently in Australia.
  • Experience with project management, including managing budgets (desirable, not essential).
