Consultant Botanist, Melbourne.

Biosis is looking to appoint an experienced Botanist and project manager to join our team in Melbourne on a full-time permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy that provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS analysts.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

Our ecology team includes experienced Principal and Senior Consultants who coach and mentor our team members. In Victoria, we work on a variety of projects, providing opportunities to explore and learn more about Victoria’s flora and environmental approvals.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Botanist and project manager, who will lead significant projects and enjoys coaching other Botanists on technical aspects of their role.

Our Melbourne office is located in Port Melbourne, close to the CBD and easily accessible by public transport.  We are a very short walk from the North Port tram stop. This central location provides access to all the services of Melbourne without the hassle of traffic and parking.

About the role

The Consultant Botanist will have at least three years of working experience in field botany, and the capability of providing environmental advice and guidance to our clients.  Your responsibilities will include designing, coordinating and undertaking field surveys and projects, preparation of proposals and technical reports, leading projects and managing client relationships. Additionally, you will establish an industry presence in the professional community as a Botanist.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the ecology team in Victoria, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout, and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role, please demonstrate these required skills and attributes within your cover letter:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in ecology and or botany
  • A minimum of three years’ botanical experience, preferably in consultancy or the public sector
  • Broad plant identification skills, with experience in Victoria
  • Strong report writing and proposal writing skills
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth and state legislation with regard to ecology
  • Experience with field survey design and implementation
  • Experience in sales, client relationship management and business development including proposal preparation, client liaison and consultation
  • Experience with project management, including budgets
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or similar software packages
  • A current manual driver’s licence.
  • Australian citizenship, or a current work permit (required).
