Biosis is looking to appoint an ambitious Botanist to join our team in NSW for a full-time, 12-month contract position, with the opportunity to extend for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy, which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

Biosis employs a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators.  We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta, Western Sydney and Wollongong.

About the role

The Botanist will have experience in field botany and the capability of providing environmental advice and guidance to our clients.  Your responsibilities will include designing, coordinating and undertaking field surveys and projects, preparation of proposals and technical reports, and undertaking project management and client liaison responsibilities. Additionally, you will establish an industry presence in the professional community as a Botanist.

You will have the ability to choose your office of preference within one of our NSW offices, in addition to flexible work from home arrangements. Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the ecology team in NSW, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout NSW, and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role, please demonstrate these required skills and attributes within your cover letter:

  • Tertiary qualifications in ecology or botany.
  • A minimum of two years of botany experience (preferably in consultancy or the public sector).
  • Broad plant identification skills, preferably with experience in NSW.
  • Experience with field survey design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth and state legislation with regard to ecology.
  • Strong proposal and report writing skills.
  • Basic experience in sales, client relationship management and business development including client liaison and consultation.
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook or similar software packages.
  • A driver’s licence (manual preferable).
  • Australian citizenship/residency, or a valid work permit (required).
  • Experience with project management, including managing budgets (desirable).
