Team Leader – Ecology (NSW)

Tony is a team leader of the NSW Ecology team and has over 15 years’ experience, specialising in south-east Australian ecology.

Tony has a long-held inquisitive passion for the natural values of Australia and has lived and worked in regional and metropolitan New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. Tony commenced his career in 2002 as a volunteer for Parklands Albury-Wodonga. In 2005, he joined the Department of Sustainability and Environment as a project firefighter and field officer, and he subcontracted to the NSW Department of Primary Industries – Fisheries (NSW Fisheries) during the winter months.

Since then, Tony has worked for a range of government and private entities, developing his in-depth understanding of the complex interrelationships fundamental to Australian ecosystems.

He has held team and project-lead roles and has worked as a research scientist and technical advisor at the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) research division, the Arthur Rylah Institute (ARI) and Biosis. His core area of expertise is native freshwater fish of south-eastern Australia, avifauna and mammals, and he uses a range of specialist survey techniques to conduct impact assessments and monitoring studies, predominantly in the North-east Victoria, Murray-Darling Basin and coastal drainages within New South Wales and Victoria.

Since joining Biosis in 2012 Tony has worked on many large scale mining, rail, road and power projects across a range of key areas including biophysical and condition-based aquatic assessments, environmental impact assessments, targeted threatened species surveys and the provision of advice on how to ameliorate or prevent detrimental impacts to these species, species recovery planning, Commonwealth (EPBC Act) referrals and state approvals.

While leading the NSW Ecology team, Tony concurrently manages ecological monitoring projects and impact assessments for major clients in New South Wales and Victoria.

Tony’s vast experience is an asset to Biosis, ensuring environmentally responsible outcomes are achieved through practical consulting and solid client relationships and the provision of robust scientific advice.
