Taryn Gooley BASc (Hons – Archaeology)
Manager – Heritage (NSW)
Taryn is the NSW Heritage Manager and Senior Archaeologist. Taryn has over eight years’ archaeological consultancy experience, as well as extensive volunteer experience on archaeological research projects overseas. Taryn has a strong background in project management, leading project teams and volunteer groups in heritage management projects throughout NSW and Western Australia. Taryn has been based in Newcastle since 2012 and has successfully completed numerous projects throughout the Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie, Hunter Valley, Central Coast, Liverpool Plains, Snowy Mountains, and North Western regions of NSW.
Taryn has extensive experience in undertaking remote archaeological surveys and large scale archaeological testing and salvage excavation programs. Taryn has participated in and managed a number of long term archaeological programs under Part 4 and Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act).
Her areas of expertise include archaeological and heritage management advice, archaeological excavation and survey, artefact analysis, Aboriginal community consultation, technical report writing, and preparing cultural heritage management plans. Taryn is also accomplished in obtaining approvals under the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974.
Taryn has conducted numerous archaeological assessments for a diverse client base including Local Government, Roads and Maritime Services, the Australian Rail Track Corporation, Sydney Water, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Department of Primary Industry and Water, resource companies, architectural firms, engineering firms, and private developers.
