Team Leader – Heritage (Victoria)

Kym is a senior archaeologist with over 10 years’ experience and is also the Victorian heritage team leader.

Kym has spent most of her career working in Victoria, but she also has experience with heritage legislation across New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.

After completing her honours thesis on children in the Casselden Place archaeological assemblage, Kym commenced her consulting career and quickly developed a passion for Aboriginal archaeology. Joining Biosis in 2015 as a research assistant, Kym gained extensive experience conducting archaeological surveys, subsurface testing programs, site salvage and monitoring programs throughout Victoria, investigating both Aboriginal and historical places.

As a project manager, Kym has been involved in approvals for a number of projects under state and Commonwealth legislation. She has authored over 90 cultural heritage management plans and other archaeological assessments and currently provides approvals advice under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and the Airports Act 1997 for a range of significant development projects at Melbourne Airport.

Kym became the team leader of the Victorian heritage team in 2019. In this role, she trains and mentors staff as part of the Biosis Consultant Development Program. Kym recently completed a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management which has given her the skills and experience to lead a large heritage team.
Working with Traditional Owners and other stakeholders motivates Kym to pursue novel solutions, ensuring the best outcomes for Biosis clients in the heritage approvals space.
