Senior Ecologist, Newcastle – permanent full time position.

Biosis is looking to appoint an ambitious Senior Ecologist to join our team in Newcastle. Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the ecology team in NSW, a key contributor to various projects throughout NSW and a driver for the development of our ecological capabilities in the region.

You will provide ecological advice and guidance to our clients, undertake flora and fauna assessments, manage and participate in projects, produce high level technical reports and proposals and maintain a profile in the professional community as an ecologist. The successful applicant will assist with developing the ecology arm of the Newcastle office, reporting to and working closely with the Ecology Team Leader and the Operations Manager – NSW.

Senior Ecologist, Newcastle

Biosis is seeking a Senior Ecologist with extensive field experience in botany and highly capable of providing sound environmental advice and guidance to our clients. Your responsibilities will include being a regional lead for ecology sales in Newcastle and participating in, conducting and managing projects, and the production of technical reports. Additional duties will include survey design and implementation, proposal writing, sales and establishing a profile in the professional community as a Senior Ecologist.

Essential selection criteria:
• Appropriate tertiary qualifications in ecology.
• A strong understanding of Commonwealth and NSW legislation relevant to ecological assessment.
• Understanding of ecological assessments, legislation and guidelines.
• Experience in project management and budget control.
• Comprehensive report writing and proposal writing skills.
• Experience working independently and as a part of a team.
• Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or similar software packages.
• Skills in the development and maintenance of lasting client relationships.
• Strong experience with field survey design and implementation.
• Experience in marketing, business development and client relationship management.
• A current manual driver’s licence.

Desirable selection criteria:
• Biodiversity Assessment Methodology assessor accreditation.
• Sales and client experience in the Newcastle/Hunter region, North Coast and north-western NSW regions.
• A minimum of five years’ ecological experience, preferably in consultancy or the public sector.
• Interpersonal and relationship building skills.
