Senior Archaeologist, Albury.

Biosis is looking to appoint an energetic, team building senior archaeologist to join our team in Albury. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading consultancy which provides ecological, heritage and environmental approval services throughout south-eastern Australia.

Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, you will become an integral member of the heritage team, a key contributor to existing and future projects throughout Victoria and New South Wales and a driver for the development of our cultural heritage capabilities in the region.

Biosis has undertaken many ecological, heritage and environmental approval projects throughout Australia and employs a highly experienced team that includes aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, botanists, zoologists, environmental planners and GIS operators. We have offices in Albury, Ballarat, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Wangaratta and Wollongong.

Our Albury office has a modern open plan working environment and is located within walking distance to the CBD and Albury Railway Station.
The ideal candidate would be a senior archaeologist with extensive field and project management experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage, who can provide sound advice and guidance to our clients. Your responsibilities will include participating in, conducting and managing projects, and the production of technical reports. Additional duties will include; survey and excavation design and implementation, proposal writing, sales and establishing a profile in the professional community as a senior archaeologist.

Essential selection criteria
• appropriate tertiary qualifications in south east Australian archaeology
• a minimum of five years’ Aboriginal cultural heritage experience, preferably in consultancy or the public sector – experience working in both Victoria and New South Wales is desirable but not essential
• strong Aboriginal stone artefact identification skills
• meets the criteria to be listed as a Heritage Advisor with Aboriginal Victoria, if not already listed
• strong report and proposal writing skills
• knowledge of Commonwealth and state legislation with regard to Aboriginal cultural heritage – experience working in both Victoria and New South Wales is desirable     but not essential
• strong experience with field survey and excavation design and implementation
• experience in client liaison and consultation
• experience in sales and business development including proposal preparation and client liaison
• competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or similar software packages
• a current manual driver’s license is a must along with a keen desire to be part of a team of specialist consultants.
• experience with project management, including budgets
• interpersonal and relationship building skills.
