Ilya’s career began as a staff archaeologist at the Department of Antiquities of Israel. From there, he held various fellowship positions including a post at Albright Institute of Archaeology, part of the American Schools of Oriental Research. Ilya went on to complete his PhD at La Trobe University on Near Eastern Bronze Age Societies, which led to a Post-Doctoral position at Arizona State University, and then a Senior Project Management role with Archaeological Consulting Services, Phoenix Arizona. Ilya’s extensive heritage management experience overseas has resulted in a well-honed understanding of heritage management practices and stakeholder consultation.

Prior to joining Biosis, Ilya spent three years as Operations Manager at a large specialist cultural heritage consultancy, and as Associate Research Fellow of La Trobe University. He is the Editor of Excavations, Surveys and Heritage Management in Victoria, and current lecturer of Managing Archaeology at La Trobe University.

Ilya is passionate about assisting clients with understanding Australian heritage, and tailoring solutions to their individual needs. Bringing stakeholders together and reaching consensus on heritage management is one of the fundamental challenges of many major projects.
